Yes, but only the well-made ones. The spring is what really decides this — a thicker, sturdier spring grips tighter and holds that grip way longer. Cheap thin springs lose tension fast.
Teeth spacing matters too. Too wide apart, and fine hair just slides right through. Too tight, and thick hair won't close all the way.
Size matters more than people think. Grab a clip too small for thick hair, and it'll pop open within an hour. Too big for thin hair, and it slides out before lunch. Match the clip size to how much hair you've actually got.

Are acetate products easily scratched?

However, one of the best features of acetate is its buffability. Unlike ordinary plastic, light scratches can easily be polished out to restore its beautiful, high-gloss finish. Think about it this way: a curling iron runs somewhere between 160°C and 220°C. A flat iron can go even hotter. Acetate starts softening around 110–150°C. So if a clip touches a hot iron, even for a second, it'll warp, bubble, or leave a melted dent. This happens more than people expect — someone's curling their hair, clip's sitting right there on the counter, iron brushes against it, and that's it. Ruined.
Hair dryers are usually okay if you keep some distance. Point one directly at a clip from two inches away on high heat for a while, though, and you'll start seeing the surface go a little glossy or soft. Better to just take the clip out before blow-drying, honestly. Takes two seconds.
Same logic applies outside the bathroom. Leave a clip on a car dashboard in summer — it'll warp, sometimes within an hour.
